Behind the Scenes of Mayflower
Most people see the finished post. They do not see the conversations, revisions, and small decisions behind it.
As the Head of Media for Mayflower, I help manage a Facebook page with more than 7,800 followers. At first, I thought my job was mainly about creating posts and making sure they looked good. I quickly realized there was much more to it.
Every project starts with an idea, but turning that idea into something people can understand takes teamwork. I work with other members to plan content, divide responsibilities, review ideas, and make changes before anything is posted. Sometimes, a post needs to be rewritten. Sometimes, an idea that sounds good at first does not work once we actually try it.
One of the biggest things I have learned is that communication is not just about telling people what to do. It is about making sure everyone understands the goal and feels comfortable sharing their ideas.
Working in media has also changed how I think about leadership. I do not want to be the person who makes every decision. I want to help my team turn their ideas into something real.
Behind every post is a team of people making small decisions that most viewers will never see. That is what makes media meaningful to me. It is not just about what appears on a screen. It is about the people and teamwork behind it.
