Building Mayflower Passion Academy: Education Beyond Borders

Building Mayflower Passion Academy: Education Beyond Borders

I never expected a homily at church to become a nonprofit idea. As I listened to stories about children growing up without access to opportunities, I found myself thinking about Mayflower, an organization that currently provides online English education to students in Brazil. While language education is important, I began wondering: what if education could go beyond English? Growing up, dance transformed my confidence, discipline, and sense of identity. It taught me lessons that no textbook could provide. That realization led me to a question: How many children around the world have passions waiting to be discovered but lack the resources to explore them? From that question came the idea of Mayflower Passion Academy is a platform where volunteers could teach not only English, but also mathematics, art, dance, public speaking, coding, and life skills. The goal would not simply be to improve academic performance, but to help students discover what excites them and what they are capable of becoming. As I explored the idea further, I realized that passion alone is not enough. Sustainable impact requires sustainable funding. That challenge inspired me to think like both a social entrepreneur and a community leader. Through fundraising performances, virtual workshops, sponsorships, and mission-driven products, the program could generate resources while remaining committed to its educational mission. For me, leadership is not about creating a project. It is about creating opportunities for others. If given the opportunity to serve as Head of Media or Head of Events, I hope to help Mayflower become more than an English tutoring program. I hope to help it become a place where every child has the chance to discover a passion that can change their future.
